Husband, who turned 86 yesterday, was saying regretfully last night , "We should be a happy, peaceful nation. We have so much."
I agreed but then got thinking about why we're not. First of all, in this country few people are satisfied. The poor want more for nothing. The wage earners want more money. The wealthy want more money. The athletes want more money (after all, what's great about
$2 mill.). Everyone wants more, more, more and bigger, bigger, bigger. Second, we have a government that gets bigger and bigger and wants to run our lives, and a political party which wants to make sure it happens (that's a chapter I won't get into at the minute) Third. we have a group of people who want to either convert us or kill us.
We saw a show about which country is happiest and it came out to be Denmark. The individuals they talked to didn't realize it , but the conclusion was that their expectations were low so they were more easily satisfied. The American attitude has always been go-go, aim high, reach for the stars...and when, individually, we don't make it, we are dissatisfied.
So, I guess we should be pleased there are as many happy peaceful people as there are in the country.
