Peggy Noonan speaks

Declarations  by Peggy Noonan.  "You're in a plane and your're flying over the campaign at a level of about 10,000 ft and you look down and see.  Not much has changed....
...............................................
There's a thing out there and it's big, and latent, and somehow always taken into account and always ignored, and political professionals always assume they understand it.  It has been called many things the past 50 years, "the silent center,"  "the silent majority,"  "the coalition,"  "the basis."   The idea of it has evolved as its composition has evolved, but the fact that it is big, and relatively silent, and somehow always latent, maintains.  And watching the McCain event--vroom vroom [50,000 Harleys] ---one got the sense it is perhaps beginning to pay attention to the campaign.  I see it as the old America, and if and when it reasserts itself, the campaign will shift, and in ways you can even see from 10,000 feet."

The dots in the center take the place of the rest of the article...worth reading.  You can all find Peggy Noonan so I don't need to put in a link, right?

Rush Limbaugh says

"When one side sees their own country as the problem, and the other side sees their own country as the solution, somebody tell me where you compromise with that."

Jay Leno says "Congress is going on a much-deserved break.  They got so much done this year.  They don't even call it a vacation;  they call it a recess.  Let's see who gets recesses:  kindergarten, Congress, and juries.  The three you can't trust to make an adult decision."

Laura Ingraham says "What exactly had the Democrat-controlled House done for us lately?  Well, it authorized the FDA to regulate tobacco, it apologized for slavery and Jim Crow laws, and , let's not forget, the House Transportation Committee moved to ban in-flight cell phone use."

Time to write your Rep

The Repubs are gathering again on Monday!!!  I just wrote to my Rep. to express my disappointment that he wasn't there on Friday when the Republicans finally had some courage.  I told him they were meeting again on Monday so I will see what his reaction is.
And Obama did another flip on the drilling question, infuriating his base!!!   HaHaHa

from the Patriot Post

"Obama has benefited from a week of good images.  But substantively, optimism without reality isn't eloquence.  It's just Disney."
New York Times columnist David Brooks

"I go on the floor of the House every day and deal with people who don't want to give health care to poor little children in America."
             Nancy Pelosi

"What is amazing this year is how many people haved bought the fundamentally childish notion that, if you don't like the way things are going, the answer is to write a blank check for generic 'change', empowering someone chosen not on the basis of any track record but on the basis of his skill with words."
          Thomas Sowell

Obama is a three-year senator without a single important legislative achievement to his name, a former Illinois state senator who voted 'present' nearly 130 times.  As president of the Harvard Law Review, as law professor and as legislator, has he ever produced a single notable piece of scholarship?  Written a single memorable article?  His most memorable work is a biography of his favorite subject:  himself."
                Charles Krauthamer

"Barack Obama wrote a prayer to God which he placed in Jerusalem's Wailing Wall last week.  The prayer note was retrieved by a seminary student and published in an Israeli newspaper.  Everybody in Israel wanted to know if it was addressed, 'Dear Dad'"
     Argus Hamilton

Troop: Sigh of Relief

A trip by Obama to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany (while not on the published schedule) was cancelled because Obama decided "it would be inappropriate to make a stop at a U.S. military facility [where the wounded are recovering] as part of a trip funded by the campaign."
Two points...weren't we told that the speech in Germany was not a campaign speech?  and ...did he get word that the troops wounded in Iraq would not be the most welcoming audience to meet after his "lack of support"  (euphemism) for their efforts?
Have to give him credit for a wise decision!!

Global Poverty Act!!

You may all be aware of this bill in Congress, but while I heard rumors of it I had no idea of the scope.  For those of you in the same boat, let me fill you in.
    S.2433  Sponsor...Barack Obama!
A bill to require the President to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the U.S. foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the Millenium Development Goal of reducing by one half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 a day.
(The Congressional Budget office estimates the cost at less than $1 million a year!)
It was headed for debate in April 2008.

H.R. 1302   a companion bill basically the same as above ...sponsored by Rep Adam Smith , D. WA, and passed in the House by voice vote in Sept . 07.

Neal Boortz was talking about this bill this morning .  If you have ever heard him, you can imagine his attitude.  Utter disbelief!
He pointed out that this country has contributed more than any other to alleviate poverty in the world.  He also pointed out that we DON'T HAVE ANY EXTRA MONEY!!!  The initiative money that recently went out in checks to anyone who filed an income tax will only be paid in the future by the coming generations.  Congress still acts as if we didn't have a deficit!   A million for this, a few millions for that,...what the heck ...it's only a drop in the bucket.

And who sponsored the bill in the Senate???  The one who hasn't done anything in the Senate,  who has voted Present how many times?, who had a committee which has never met.  who brags about His committee (that he isn't even on).  Maybe he will pay for the Poverty Act out of his own pocket..  No???  You think out  of ours???

I always think I have heard everything from this body we call our Congress until the next day.  I want a divorce!!!

Guess who!

"He reads a speech very well and handles controlled and fawning press with ease, but when he wings it he comes off worse than Bush.
I guess it's not easy to remember all the things you said that you don't really believe."
Quote of Sgt.Relic  in a comment in Skep  (too good not to spread around)

Are We Whiners?

and are the reporters trying to help Obama??   Go see "At the Right"   at :https://jevica2003.blogtownhall.com/default.aspx   for two of the best answers to those questions you are going to read.

"The Surest Way to Create a Campaign Controversy"   (7/21--12:13:52)  and "Belief Growing that Reporters Are Trying to Help Obama" (7/21--11"19"27)

We can't speak the truth anymore and we can't joke .   If the Fairness Doctrine were in effect,  the papers would be scrambling to fit McCain in to equal the coverage being given to Obama.  :-))

Fair Tax: The Truth

If you haven't checked into the Fair Tax plan, it's time.  With all that is going on this year it probably won't get much attention, but it should.  I had read the original book describing it, but it was a little heavy to get through.  The new book "Fair Tax: The Truth" (subtitled "Answering the Critics") is easier to read and very convincing.  The first rush of attention is over and it seems like it will be hard to get enough people interested, especially with the election taking most of the space, but, hopefully, after the election is over, there will be another surge.  I can't imagine Congress passing it.  I can't imagine enough people getting excited about it to push it.  It will take a minor miracle.  But we can hope.  There is a bill before Congress (HR 25) and I assume John Linder will bring it up again and again.

Don't tease Obama!!

Has anyone noticed it's against the rules to tease Obama?  You can laugh at McCain's age (and so does he) but don't dare to make fun of anything about Obama!!  Somehow his thin skin is easily punctured.  Somehow I don't trust someone who can't laugh at himself.  Or take a needle.  Or take himself so seriously he can't bend.

Well, now bending is different, isn't it.  He's bending in all different directions!  He has reversed himself so much in the recent past one could get dizzy following his spins!!  But perfectly seriously!!!    The only time he must laugh is when he realizes how easily people can be buffaloed.  I think he must look in the mirror at night and wonder just how stupid people can be .  But no, he really believes he is the divine answer to our problems, and, although he has never solved any before, he will be the answer to all the liberals' prayers.

Heaven help us.

We are not alone!!!

Global Warming on Saturn!!!  Well, that must be the reason for a monster storm which has hit Saturn.  After "nearly two years of no electrical storm activity"  a "monster storm--measuring two-thirds  the size of the Earth" has appeared .
Now we all know that the extreme storms on Earth are being caused by G. W.  (and for a change, that's not Bush)  so our emissions must be reaching Saturn!  So we are not only destroying our planet we are working on the whole Solar System!
Bolts of lightning measuring 10,000 times stronger than those on Earth have been pelting Saturn since November, according to NASA's Cassini-Huygens spacecraft, which has been orbiting Saturn since July, 2004.  Is this a sign of things to come here on Earth??
One way the Saturnians are lucky is that their continents will not be flooded like ours are due to be.
