Millard Fillmore

Millard Fillmore is a "comic" strip.  I love it!  From this morning's strip:
This just in....a survey of American college students' interpretations of the second amendment to the Constitution has been delayed...
while researchers explain to them the meaning of " second amendment" and "Constitution".

Weyrich on Education

Newsmax has an article by Paul Weyrich on the candidates offering on Education.  He says "not enough" but describes what they are suggeting.
Then he says that what "a candidate should offer is a return to local control, an emphasis upon improved and more rigorous curriculum, school choice and competition, and a significant reduction in the power of teachers' unions."
My opinion: throwing more money at the schools is not going to work and the federal government getting involved is not going to work.

Pork

There has been an effort lately to do something about pork in Congress.   71 ! members of the Senate voted against a bill that would restrain pork.  This is disgusting!
Congress is the most disgusting body of people in this country!  I see these journalists covering the news from Congress and I wonder how they can continue to do it without screaming.  How can they watch the rotten things that go on day after day?   How can they see the Congress go home for a vacation when there are important duties requiring their attention?
I write letters (or I did for a while)  to Congressmen complaining and, sometimes, screaming over the horrible situation, and KNOW that they will never see anything that criticizes them.  How do we get through to them that they are DISGUSTING,  that they should be ashamed of what they are doing to the country?
Did you get the impression that I am DISGUSTED??
Someone said "Oh let's throw out the whole bunch and start over."  But when MA sends Kennedy back time after time,  what hope is there for throwing anyone out , never mind everyone.  If one state is stupid enough to send Kennedy and Kerry back to Congress time after time, what hope is there for the whole country!
We are in a situation where we can go down the tubes because we are so much in debt.  (The debt is being bought up by countries which dislike or hate us). They make no effort to deal with the situation...neither Social Security or Medicare or the deficit...and go blithely along like these problems will cure themselves.  All they do is add to the government,  spend more money,  sneak in more pork and it gets worse and worse, bigger and bigger, and they don't even promise any progress anymore.    None of the candidates (miserable as they are) are even mentioning Social Security and Medicare.
The economy is tanking and they wring their hands and moan  and then hold hearings on baseball and football.
The longer this goes on, the more Libertarian I become.... throw out the whole government and go back to minimum (which was supposed to be the role of the federal govt!)   If you read the Constitution you discover  what the Federal government was supposed to cover... a bare minimum... the rest of the governing was supposed to be up to the states.  The size of the government now is due to them sticking their noses into every possible spot they could find...of showing each one could write more bills than the other...of each one trying for the most pork.

Quotes from the Dems

The Investor's Business Daily quotes some well-known Dems.  For ex.  T. Kennedy on 9/27/02: "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."   H. Clinton on 10/2002:  "It is clear...that if left unchecked , Saddam Hussein will continure to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
Al Gore on 9/23/02:  "We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
In the fall of 2002 Congress urged Bush to go to war.
Then in one of the most shameful political turnabouts in U.S. history,  they did an about face as the polls showed public support waning.
In other words, instead of supporting the President and the effort to help Iraq,  politics won out over statesmanship.
And now, in the effort to deprive Bush of any success, regardless of the consequences,  all they talk about is "getting out"
Pelosi and Reid have no concern for the country or the world , only their despising Bush.

crawfish

OK one more rant about Obama and then I am taking a break from him!  I promise!  But meanwhile, if you haven't seen Crawfish's critique of Richardson's speech  go to http://constitutionalcrawfish.blogtownhall.com/default.aspx
He uses a scalpel!  Richardson is, of course, the gov. of New Mexico, former friend of the Clintons who has endorsed OB.
So on to other topics...there must be some somewhere!
Oh, if you would like a short course in economics go to the comments in http://tonewah.blogtownhall.com/default.aspx
under "When Will America Abandon Socialism"
Tonewah does a great job of explaining simply for ignoramuses like me.
And my latest copy of the Patriot Post just got printed so I have to go read that!  It is being sent to many servicepeople in Iraq and , they say, makes them feel good.
                                       ......................................................
There was a column in the local left-wing paper today from (what else?) the LA Times, a kindred soul to this local (the Daytona New-Journal).  It was written by Joel Stein and called "Take the dude (Bernanke) on a pub crawl"
The meaning of that title is finally explained in the last paragraph.  "Someone has got to calm the dude down.  Take him for a spa day.  Or on a pub crawl."   Now how's that for supercilious superiority!    Does Bush know that in LA there is someone who could do a better job for the Feds than Bernanke?   And here we are suffering in a scary financial situation when Mr. Stein could solve it for us!    But he says that "no one besides the Fed is panicking."  So that's a relief.  I can stop panicking.

From here to there

   Our economy depends on oil

The liberals won't let us drill in Alaska or in the ocean.

We relay on the Arabs for oil

The Arabs raise the price for oil.

The high price for oil makes everything else go up.

The high price of food hits everyone, but the poor the hardest.

The very poor begin to starve.

The liberal government steps in to help feed the people.

     The deficit grows even larger.

Riots start when people get desperate.

     Suicides become common.

By this time global warming has succeeded in raising the level of the oceans so that whole sections of the coast are under water.

Oh, sorry that last one won't happen because there is no imminent danger from global warming,  in spite of Gore.

Ron Kessler!

Get to Ron Kessler in Newsmax today!  He tells how he has tried since January to get the story of Preacher Wright published.  The MSM has ignored the story...they love Obama and were afraid of the racial themes.  Newsmax has been the stalwart one all along.

Obama;what else

Just saw a great comment on Ann Coulter's latest post:  Someone said (and I translate) Obama had 20 years to  (teach? convince? affect?
influence?) Wright's attitudes and, obviously, did not change him a whit.  But now he wants to make America racism-free and then united!
Did he even try to change Wright?  Did he even try to reform him?  But now he figures he can change the whole country?  Oh sure.

Re:pastor's speech

posted by Bobby Eberle in "Welcome to the Loft"
"Those on the left have done more to perpetuate strife between the races than they will ever admit...from racial preferences to "hate" crime laws, the dream of a color-blind society has been swept away in favor of 'give me something just because I'm black' mentality."
So include preachers who preach hate from the pulpit!!!  This is the way to teach young black youngsters how to get along in the American society???  No, this is the way to perpetuate the hate, the resentment, the lack of will and push them right into the eager arms of the liberal left.

For some common sense, libertarian style, read  Tonewah.  The country is headed for trouble;  can we reverse it?

In Sowell's post

He says that Jim Davis was the one who was in church at the same time as Obama (and the Security) and heard the pastor
with his diatribe against the U.S.  Obama was nodding, acc. to Davis and never left the church.
Obama is denying he was in church on the day Davis is talking about but Davis insists that both of them were there.

Quote from Sowell

Thomas Sowell in the Patriot Post today:   "Obama chose to be part of that church for 20 years.  He was not born into it.  His personal character matters, just as Eliot Spitzer's 'personal' character matters--and just as Hillary Clinton's character would matter if she had any."

Obama email

I just got an email making several accusations about Obama...he got sworn in with a Koran , not a Bible,...he is a Muslim...he won't say the Pledge...he won't salute the flag..  In other words we should be scared to death of his becoming Pres.  As I scrolled down the page I saw a link to Snopes and it said something to the effect of "If you don't believe it go to Snopes.  Being naturally quizzy I went to Snopes .  It showed the email and then took it point by point and said except for one thing the whole thing was false.  The one thing that Snopes said was true was a photo showed him back to the flag when everyone was saying the Pledge or saluting the flag.
Now...l am definitely scared of Obama becoming Pres.  I dread what a socialist like him with a Democrat congress will do to this country.  I don't know if the Clintons were responsible for this email or where it came from but I don't like the lies and distortions, no matter who they are against.

Quote from Obama

"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world.  I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it."
Honest Injun, that's what he said!  And you know he means it!  Will we like how he changes the greatest nation in the world?
